Sharon made a decision with her now husband Greg in 1986 to build Ion Art, a design and fabrication workshop dedicated to building all things neon - and so much more. She wanted to create a way forward for other artists to work collaboratively and to be able to focus on glass and metal work in order to provide clients in Austin with custom lighting, interior furnishings and art installations, in addition to creative signage. Sharon tells Max how she navigated building a team of experts and talented individuals, leading to projects like Whole Foods first use of neon, Austin City Limits Music Festival Guitar, and their annual surreal series of interactive experiences celebrating 100 years of neon magic.
